Brah.

Having parted with Regulus, Millie came in and sat down silently in her seat, mulling the conversation over in her mind.

Peter entered, looking a bit sleepy, and sat at the back, followed by Lily, who sat front centre.

Evangeline sat between Lily and Millie, getting her things out.

E: Hi, you two.

M: Hi.

Millie flashed Evangeline a quick smile.

M: How were your other classes?

E: Oh, just fascinating, I'm very much looking forward to the homework taks we've been set.

M: Oh, I am too.

Millie resisted the urge to roll her eyes. Evangeline was sweet, but the studious act was getting on her nerves.

L: I've read most of 'Advanced Rune Translation' anyway.

She was flicking though several number charts.

M: Oh. I've read...half.

Millie shuffled her papers, some of which were crumpled.

Lily nodded, not really paying attention. The professor, Madame Morgana walked in, her plump figure at odds with her sharp features.

MM: Welcome, my class, to Arithmancy.

Millie straightened up. She'd heard that this teacher was very hawklike in her mannerism, so she was trying her best to impress her.

Evangeline smiled slightly as the teacher walked past her desk. Suddenly turning on her heel, Madame Morgana banged her hand down on Millie's desk.

MM: What is believed to be the most powerful number in magic?

M: Seven.

Millie squeaked, jerking backwards.

M: Established by Bridget Wenlock.

Madame Morgana did not praise, but she did not scold, which meant Millie was correct.

MM: You!

She barked at Evangeline.

MM: Which series of numbers is stated in 'Arithmancy: A Guide' as 'before its time'?

E: Three, six and nine. Three for completeness, six for harmony, and nine for being ultimately complete.

MM: Yes.

She snapped, turning around to fix Evangeline with her gaze again, sharper.

MM: What is your character number?

E: S-Six.

Evangeline stammered, taken off guard.

MM: Heart number?

E: Eight.

MM: Social number?

E: Seven.

The teacher moved on again, gliding.

Millie raised her eyebrows at Evangeline, then nodded, as if to say 'Good job'.

Evangeline breathed a sigh of relief and smiled, feeling free from the teacher's grip.

Madame Morgana rapped on her board three times, and it dropped down to reveal a number chart of single digit numbers.

MM: What is this, Miss Evans?

L: A Greek number chart.

MM: And what is its significance?

L: It's predictions for this year are so far true, but Arithmancers believe there is a mistake.

Millie watched with a sort of dazed expression. She was so not cut out for this class, or at least not this teacher. Trying to be subtle, Millie attempted to avert her gaze from the professor in order to avoid getting called on.

MM: What character number is associated with two-mindedness?

She snapped, turning on Millie again.

Again, Millie jumped.

M: Um...err, uh...eight? Eight.

Cos of the two loopy thingies.

MM: Two.

M: Oh. Right.

A snigger, mostly from the boys, rippled through the class. Duh. She sank down low in her seat.

MM: The difference between Arithmancy and Numerology, anybody?

Millie's hand shot up.
