Evangeline was about to rebut when she realised, somewhat sadly, that this was the best Christmas she had had.

Sirius noticed the slight change in her expression.

S: What?

He patted his hair, almost sub-consciously.

S: Is it me?

A smirk forced its way onto her lips when she spied him checking his hair.

E: No - well, not really. Not in a bad way. It's just odd to think that this really is the happiest Christmas I've ever had.

His hand dropped from his hair and instead enclosed her fingers in his.

S: Hey, don't worry. There's plenty more to come.

She smiled at him widely, squeezing his hand in hers.

E: Every Christmas with you'll be a happy one.

And there'd be plenty of those - right?

Yes, lots and lots.

Sirius let out a laugh.

S: Wonder where James got to.

Her looked at the door, expecting his best friend to emerge.

James walked in dejectedly, a piece of mistletoe drooping at his side and a red mark blooming on his cheek.

A strangled laugh escaped Sirius' mouth.

S: What... Did you try and snog Jasmine?

J: No... Lily.

He mumbled, making Evangeline pout and pat the place beside her.

E: What happened?

James collapsed between them, stretching out until every muscle was taut, then letting everything go loose.

J: I walked up behind her, and held up the mistletoe, closed my eyes and puckered up... and she walked away.

At this point, he shuddered.

J: And... and...

E: What? What is it?

J: Rosa Bell turned around... saw me...

With a whimper, he pointed to his cheek.

Sirius made another weird noise, halfway between a laugh and a sympathetic groan.

S: You prat James.

He let out, smiling sadly at his friend.

S: Does it hurt?

J: Yeah.

He stuck his bottom lip out.

S: I'm not kissing it better.

Sirius replied, but he leaned in to take a closer look at it.

S: Merlin, James, was she wearing any rings?

J: They don't call her Ringo for nothing.

Evangeline suddenly snorted, very unladylike all of a sudden. She surprised herself, clapping her hand over her nose and mouth.

E: Ringo?

J: Yeah, they call her Ringo cos of all of her rings. Original, right?

Sirius opened his mouth to say something, but thought better of it.

S: Okay mate, have you put something cold on it?

J: I don't know, how cold is shame? Cos I'm covered in shame.

S: Covered in shame?

Sirius rolled his eyes and smiled apologetically at Evangeline.

S: Sorry you have to witness this.

E: No, it's fine.

She was giggling discreetly.

Sirius looked at the door again.

S: Where's Remus? Surely he would have prevented this.

He gestured at the bruise.

J: Haven't seen him.

Suddenly James gave Sirius a loaded look and eyebrow quirk, meaning "Werewolf stuff?"

Sirius shot him a creased-brow-pursed-lip 'I don't know, what day is it?' look back.

S: Me either.

Roll of the eyes: "25th, duh"

Self-depricating smirk and head shift: 'typical Sirius'.

S: Weird.

Narrowed eyes: 'shall we find him?'

Nod: "Yep, and now".

J: Well, I need to go... find... Frank! Haven't wished him a merry Christmas.

S: That is a great idea, I cherish Frank, he is an upstanding citizen.

Sirius flew up, and grinned at Evangeline- a little too wide.

S: I gotta... Frank.

Evangeline frowned, but went to get up.

E: I'll come.

James pushed her shoulder so thst, mid rise, she plopped back down again.

J: You can't.

Fixing him with a searching glare, Evangeline folded her arms and subjected him to her intense scrutiny.

E: And why is that, exactly, Potter?

J: Because... he's... probably in the bath! No girls allowed! Come on Sirius!

And then they legged it.
